Your visa was rejected? Since July 1, 2025, you can no longer appeal for free. The Remonstration process is gone. Your next step is either a brand-new application (€75, 6–12 weeks) or a lawsuit in Berlin. The motivation letter is the one document where you fully control the narrative. Get it right the first time.

Important: German embassies expect the motivation letter in formal German (Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, Sie-Form), even if your overall application is submitted in English. The templates below are in German. The explanations and annotations are in English.
Before you read the templates, understand the embassy’s perspective. The visa officer reviewing your letter has one job: assess whether you have genuine reasons to learn German and whether you will leave Germany when your visa expires.
The letter must answer seven questions, either directly or implicitly:
A letter that leaves any of these questions unanswered creates doubt. Doubt leads to rejection.

hiermit beantrage ich ein Sprachkursvisum gemäß § 16f Abs. 1 AufenthG für einen Intensivkurs
an der Goethe-Sprachschule München vom 1. September 2026 bis zum 28. Februar 2027.
Ich bin Softwareingenieur und arbeite seit vier Jahren bei der Firma TechSolve Pvt. Ltd. in
Pune. Mein Schwerpunkt liegt auf eingebetteten Systemen und Industrieautomation — einem
Bereich, in dem deutsche Unternehmen wie Siemens, Bosch und SAP weltweit führend sind.
Die Firma MechTech GmbH in München hat mir eine Stelle als Senior Software Engineer
angeboten, die jedoch den Nachweis von Deutschkenntnissen auf Niveau B2 voraussetzt
(beiliegende Beschäftigungszusage vom 10. Februar 2026).
Deutsche Sprachkenntnisse sind in meinem Berufsfeld keine optionale Qualifikation. Die
technische Dokumentation, die Kommunikation mit Kollegen im Betrieb und die Zusammenarbeit
mit deutschen Kunden erfordern ein solides B2-Niveau. Einen ähnlichen Kurs in Indien habe
ich bereits absolviert (Goethe-Institut Pune, Niveau A2, Zertifikat beiliegend). Die
Intensität eines Vollzeit-Sprachkurses in Deutschland — täglich sechs Stunden Unterricht,
kombiniert mit dem Alltag auf Deutsch — ermöglicht einen deutlich schnelleren Fortschritt,
als es Abendkurse in meiner Heimat erlauben.
Ich habe die Goethe-Sprachschule München nach gezielter Recherche gewählt. Sie bietet
Kurse speziell für berufstätige Erwachsene mit 22 Unterrichtseinheiten pro Woche und
ist als offizielles Goethe-Institut-Prüfungszentrum anerkannt. Ich plane, unmittelbar
nach Kursabschluss die Goethe-Zertifikat-B2-Prüfung abzulegen.
Meine Finanzierung ist vollständig gesichert: Ich habe ein Sperrkonto bei Expatrio
eröffnet und einen Betrag von 6.546 € hinterlegt (Kontobestätigung beiliegend). Darüber
hinaus trägt mein zukünftiger Arbeitgeber MechTech GmbH die Kursgebühren in Höhe von
3.600 € (Nachweis beiliegend).
Nach erfolgreichem Kursabschluss und dem Bestehen der B2-Prüfung werde ich meine
Beschäftigung bei MechTech GmbH in München aufnehmen. Meine Eltern und meine Partnerin
leben in Pune; ich unterhalte dort ein laufendes Mietverhältnis und bin weiterhin bei
TechSolve Pvt. Ltd. beurlaubt, bis mein Arbeitsvertrag in Deutschland in Kraft tritt.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
ich beantrage ein Sprachkursvisum für einen Deutschintensivkurs am Sprachzentrum
Tübingen vom 15. August 2026 bis zum 31. Juli 2027 (ca. 11,5 Monate, 24
Unterrichtseinheiten pro Woche).
Die Universität Tübingen hat mir einen bedingten Zulassungsbescheid für den
Masterstudiengang Molekularbiologie (Beginn: Wintersemester 2027/28) erteilt. Die
Bedingung lautet: Nachweis von TestDaF Niveaustufe TDN 4 in allen vier Teilbereichen
(beiliegender Zulassungsbescheid vom 5. Februar 2026). Ohne diesen Nachweis verfällt
mein Studienplatz.
Mein Interesse an einem Masterstudium in Deutschland hat konkrete fachliche Gründe.
Das Labor von Prof. Dr. Müller an der Universität Tübingen forscht zur
RNA-Interferenz in Pflanzen — einem Thema, das direkt an meine Bachelorarbeit
anschließt. Weder in Brasilien noch in anderen englischsprachigen Ländern gibt es
ein vergleichbares Forschungsumfeld für diesen Schwerpunkt.
Ich habe das Sprachzentrum Tübingen gewählt, weil es eine der wenigen Sprachschulen
in Deutschland ist, die Kurse speziell zur TestDaF-Vorbereitung anbieten und als
offizielles TestDaF-Testzentrum zugelassen sind. Ich plane, den TestDaF im
Juni 2027 abzulegen — drei Monate vor Semesterbeginn, um bei Bedarf einen
weiteren Versuch zu haben.
Meine Finanzierung ist gesichert: Ich habe ein Sperrkonto bei Fintiba eröffnet
(Einlage: 12.547 €, entspricht 11,5 Monaten à 1.091 €; Bestätigung beiliegend).
Zusätzlich erhalte ich ein Teilstipendium der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes
in Höhe von 300 € pro Monat für die gesamte Kursdauer (Bewilligungsschreiben
beiliegend).
Nach erfolgreichem Bestehen des TestDaF werde ich mein Masterstudium an der
Universität Tübingen aufnehmen. Meine Familie lebt in São Paulo; mein Vater führt
dort ein Ingenieurbüro, in dem ich nach Abschluss meines Masterstudiums mitarbeiten
möchte. Ich habe keinerlei Absicht, dauerhaft in Deutschland zu bleiben, sondern
möchte die erworbene Qualifikation nach Brasilien zurückbringen.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
ich beantrage ein Sprachkursvisum für einen Intensivkurs an der Sprachschule Stuttgart
vom 1. Oktober 2026 bis zum 31. März 2027 (6 Monate, 20 Unterrichtseinheiten
pro Woche).
Ich bin examinierte Pflegefachkraft mit acht Jahren Berufserfahrung auf der
Intensivstation des Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. Das
Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart hat meine philippinische Pflegeausbildung als
gleichwertig anerkannt (beiliegender Anerkennungsbescheid vom 22. Januar 2026).
Die Ausübungserlaubnis als Pflegefachkraft in Deutschland ist jedoch an den
Nachweis von Deutschkenntnissen auf Niveau B2 geknüpft. Das Klinikum Stuttgart
hat mir eine Stelle in der internistischen Intensivpflege angeboten, sobald ich
diesen Nachweis erbracht habe (beiliegendes Einstellungsschreiben vom 14. Februar 2026).
Ich habe die Sprachschule Stuttgart nach eingehender Prüfung gewählt, weil sie
einen Kurs speziell für Pflegefachkräfte anbietet, der medizinische Fachterminologie
und Pflegekommunikation integriert. Dieser Kurs bereitet gezielt auf die
Fachsprachenprüfung der Landesärztekammer Baden-Württemberg vor — die in
meinem Fall zusätzlich zum allgemeinen B2-Nachweis erforderlich ist.
Ich verfüge derzeit über Deutschkenntnisse auf Niveau A2, die ich durch
Selbststudium und einen Kurs am Goethe-Institut Manila erworben habe. Ein
Vollzeit-Sprachkurs in Stuttgart ermöglicht mir, das erforderliche B2-Niveau
innerhalb von sechs Monaten zu erreichen — ein realistisches Ziel bei
wöchentlich 20 Unterrichtseinheiten.

❌ “…weil ich die deutsche Sprache sehr interessant finde und schon immer Deutschland besuchen wollte.” This is tourist motivation, not study motivation. Every embassy visa officer has read this sentence hundreds of times. It signals that the applicant has no real professional or academic reason to learn German — and no reason to leave after the visa expires.
❌ “…denke, dass Deutschkenntnisse für meine zukünftige Karriere hilfreich sein könnten.” The word “könnten” (could) is the problem. This is hedged, vague, and entirely unsubstantiated. Which career? Which employer? Which position requires German? The embassy’s rejection letter cited exactly this passage.
❌ “Außerdem habe ich eine Freundin in Deutschland…” This is one of the most damaging sentences you can write. A romantic partner in Germany is an active red flag for immigration intent. The officer’s immediate thought: “He wants to stay with his girlfriend, not return home.” Never mention personal relationships with German residents unless you are applying for a family reunification visa.
❌ “…weil sie einen günstigen Kurs anbietet.” Choosing a school because it is cheap is not a reason an embassy will accept. It suggests the school was chosen for minimal cost (to make staying longer affordable) rather than educational quality. It also fails to confirm the 18 UE/week minimum.
❌ “Die genaue Stundenzahl pro Woche kenne ich noch nicht, aber ich glaube, es sind genug.” This is almost incredible — but real applications submitted this way. Not knowing (or not stating) the weekly hours is grounds for immediate rejection. The 18 UE/week requirement is explicit in § 16f. If the application doesn’t confirm it, the embassy assumes it isn’t met.
❌ “Für die Finanzierung werde ich meine Eltern um Unterstützung bitten.” Future-tense parental support is not financial proof. The Sperrkonto or other documented proof must already exist at the time of application. “I will ask my parents” is not a bank statement.
Go through this checklist before you submit your letter. Every “no” is a reason for rejection.

Different embassies apply the same law differently. These differences are documented and important.

You can — but German is strongly preferred. The letter will be processed by a German officer at a German embassy. A letter in correct formal German signals that you are already engaged with the language and take the application seriously. If your German is at A1 level, write a short German letter with help and attach a note explaining your current level. Never submit a machine-translated letter without having a native speaker review it.
No. This is one of the most common self-inflicted rejection triggers. A personal relationship with a German resident signals potential immigration intent, not study intent. The embassy’s job is to assess whether you will leave Germany when your visa expires. A partner in Germany is evidence that you might not.
Very specific. Name the school, explain why you chose it over alternatives, state the exact weekly hours, and mention any specialization relevant to your goal (exam preparation center, industry-specific German, etc.). “I chose this school because it is good” is not a justification. “I chose this school because it is the only BAMF-certified institution in Stuttgart offering a TestDaF preparation track” is.
Apply anyway — there is no minimum German level required for § 16f. Simply be honest: “Ich verfüge derzeit über keine Deutschkenntnisse, möchte jedoch im Rahmen dieses Intensivkurses das Niveau B1 erreichen.” (I currently have no German knowledge, but I aim to reach B1 through this intensive course.) Add a timeline showing why B1 is achievable in your course duration. Most full beginners can reach B1 in 6–9 months of 20+ UE/week intensive study.
One DIN A4 page. No more. Target 400–500 words in Arial or Times New Roman, 11–12 pt, 2.5 cm margins. Embassies process hundreds of letters. A two-page letter is not more convincing — it signals poor communication skills.
Yes, briefly — but it cannot be the main reason. “I have been interested in German literature since university” is an acceptable supporting sentence. It becomes a problem when it is the primary motivation with no professional or academic anchor. Think of personal interest as a supporting detail, not the main argument.
Using a template as a structural guide is fine. Submitting it word-for-word is not. Embassies see thousands of applications and recognize copy-pasted letters. Personalization is not optional — it is the entire point of a motivation letter. Replace every generic element with your actual facts: your employer’s name, your school’s weekly hours, your specific exam date.
Yes. Since the Remonstration process was abolished in July 2025, a new application is your primary option. Read the written rejection reason carefully — embassies in Germany are required to state a reason. Address that reason directly in your new letter. Do not simply rephrase; provide evidence. If they said your career connection was unclear, attach a job offer or employer letter with the new application.
You should reference your financial proof, but you do not need to write a paragraph about it. One sentence is enough: “Ich habe ein Sperrkonto bei [Provider] eröffnet und [Betrag] € eingezahlt (Bestätigung beiliegend).” This confirms awareness of the requirement and saves the officer the time of cross-referencing your letter with your documents.
Yes. Always include: “Betreff: Begründung meines Antrags auf ein Sprachkursvisum gemäß § 16f AufenthG.” This identifies the letter’s purpose immediately and references the correct legal paragraph — which matters, because some embassies still confuse § 16f with § 16b.
