The Chancenkarte allows qualified professionals from non-EU countries to search for a job in Germany for up to 12 months - even without a job offer.
What is the Chancenkarte?
Since June 2024, qualified professionals from third countries can apply for the Chancenkarte. It is based on a points system: those who score at least 6 points can receive a visa to search for work in Germany. Points are awarded for language skills, age, work experience and other criteria.

Basic Requirements
- Recognised university degree or professional qualification (min. 2-year training)
- At least A1 level in German or B2 level in English
- At least 6 points in the points system
- Proof of secured livelihood (blocked account)
Financial Requirements
For the Chancenkarte you must prove you can support yourself in Germany. A blocked account with at least EUR 12,324 is required (EUR 1,027 per month for 12 months). Alternatively, a formal obligation letter can be submitted.
Validity and Next Steps
The Chancenkarte is valid for 12 months. During this time you may work a side job of up to 20 hours per week and do trial work. If you find a suitable job, you can switch directly to a work residence permit.
